Camp Bradford

On July 1, 1943, the 741st moved to Camp Bradford, a Navy Amphibious training base eleven miles from Virginia Beach. Over 100,000 troops were amphibiously polished there between May 1943 and January 1944. The beaches were alive with activity as men poured in and out of the holds day and night.

July 2We're in the Navy now.

July 5Up at 5:00 AM. No time between meals. We walk about a mile before breakfast and supper. Lunch is on the beach. The sea is tough on equipment and it has to be cleaned each night. I had to stay in the barracks today to write up an investigation of an accident from Saturday. Motor Sergeant got caught between the boat and a light tank. Didn't leave too much of him.

The unit returned to Camp Pickett July 9th.
