Fort Meade

Specialized training for the 741st Tank Battalion began in Maryland at Fort George G. Meade in March 1942 and continued through July. The unit, made up of 685 men, was divided into Companies A, B, C, D, Service Company and Headquarters. Each man was assigned to a specialized function, such as clerk, cook, mechanic or tank crew.

Dennis's first job with the battalion was that of a clerk in Service Company.
